Sons of Behemat Get a Legal 2,000-Point List in Warhammer’s October Update
Try building a 2,000-point Sons of Behemat army and you hit a wall: the list wouldn’t come out legal unless you padded it with Auxiliaries. Games Workshop’s October update fixes that.
Warhammer Community published the Age of Sigmar and Kill Team updates on October 28. Both are mostly housekeeping, which is what a rules update should be, but a few of the changes land on armies people already own. The details below come from Warhammer Community’s Age of Sigmar October update and its Kill Team October update.
Start with the Sons of Behemat. Regiments led by Mancrusher Gargants are now an option for both the Matriarch’s Mob and the Stomper Tribe Armies of Renown. That is the whole fix, and it is the right one: a player who bought into giants shouldn’t need to buy something else just to make the army legal at the standard size.
The Fyreslayer change is the one we’d read twice. We covered the seven entries leaving the active range as the faction folds into the new Khazalite Holds book. This update works on the other side of that move. Many older Fyreslayers keywords are now Grimmdron, so the Fyreslayers rules from Scourge of Aqshy can still be used. The Lofnir Drothkeepers Army of Renown was rewritten slightly too, and it now has an extra way to generate grudge marks when your Magmadroths die. If you own the old models, that is a sign the new book isn’t leaving them stranded overnight.
The rest of Age of Sigmar is small. Ogor Mawtribes, Lumineth Realm-lords, Sylvaneth, Nighthaunt and Skaven get fixes and clarifications, and the Skaven Verminlord Corruptor gets a points correction after a typo in the previous update. Pyregheists and Ydrilan Riverblades can now take double Champions when reinforced, like similar warscrolls. Spearhead gets what Warhammer Community calls one of its largest updates in a while, though none of it is a major change. Heartflayer Troupe, Slasher Host, Swampskulka Gang and Sunblood Prowlers are all touched, and several abilities gain the “Once Per Turn (Army)” condition to match other factions.
Kill Team is where the table will feel it first. The special cover rules for Killzone: Tomb World walls are gone, so those pieces now work like ordinary Kill Team terrain. Vantage Points get new examples of when an operative gets Light or Heavy cover from a shooter below. And you can’t stretch a ladder beyond an operative’s maximum span in a single Reposition. Ten kill teams (Blooded, Chaos Cult, Exaction Squad, Fellgor Ravagers, Gellerpox Infected, Hunter Clade, Inquisitorial Agents, Legionaries, Ratlings and Vespid Stingwing) already ignored action restrictions to Operate Hatch, and they now get the Breach action too. Exodite Dragon Masters also get clarifications on forced movement, and a Concealed Exodite can no longer Sprint or Turn into Engagement Range.
A fair caution: the Warhammer Community articles describe the changes without giving most of the exact wording or point values. For those you need the Rules Update PDF, where the Sons of Behemat change is on page 33 and the Khazalite Holds change is on page 72. We haven’t read the PDF line by line, so check it before you rebuild a list around any of this. Questions can go to AoSFAQ@gwplc.com.
It is not a flashy update. It is the kind that keeps an old army legal and a 2,000-point list buildable, and for most of us that matters more than a new datasheet.
