Fyreslayers Lose Seven Entries to Legends, and Owners Get a 12-Month Clock

If your Fyreslayers army is built around Vulkite Berzerkers, you now have a countdown. Games Workshop has confirmed the unit is leaving the active range, and it isn’t the only one.

On October 9, Warhammer Community published its guide to Fyreslayers in the new Khazalite Holds battletome. The faction is being folded into the new duardin army, which we first spotted when Games Workshop’s web store leaked it in September. Bell of Lost Souls put the cost in its headline: seven entries are going.

Here’s the list. Moving to Warhammer Legends are the Vulkite Berzerkers, Auric Runemaster, Battlesmith, Doomseeker, Grimwrath Berzerker, Magmic Battleforge and Magmic Invocations. That’s four infantry heroes plus the battleforge and the invocations, with the Berzerkers as the big one. Games Workshop’s own wording is that removing them “pivots the Fyreslayers into a more elite force.”

What stays is the Auric Runefather, Runeson and Runesmiter (on Magmadroth or on foot), the Auric Flamekeeper, Grimhold Exile, Vulkyn Flameseekers, Auric Hearthguard and Hearthguard Berzerkers. There’s also a new pair, Ormyr and his kyndledroth Ashtongue. Gotrek gets an honourable mention, though Warhammer Community is careful to say he isn’t technically a Fyreslayer.

The part that matters most at the table is the timing. Warhammer Community says the removed units “will soon come off sale,” and that they “will remain usable in competitive events for a year after the new book releases.” After that they move into Legends. So the clock starts at the book’s release, not today. That’s a fair window, and a lot better than the units vanishing the day the book lands. It’s still a hard fact for anyone with a paid-for, painted block of Berzerkers who planned to run it at events past next autumn.

Two things soften the blow a little. Players who want a pure Fyreslayers force can still build one by taking Fyreslayer units or the Fyrd of Fyrepeak Army of Renown. And the September 18 preview added a Magmic Fyrd Spearhead (a Magmadroth, a Runefather, a Runesmiter, nine Vulkyn Flameseekers and five Auric Hearthguard) and a Regiment of Renown led by Fjori, which any Order army can take. Those are real options for the survivors.

We’ll be honest about what we don’t know. We haven’t seen the new warscrolls, so we can’t say how the army plays with the Berzerkers gone, or whether Hearthguard and Flameseekers can carry the infantry line on their own. We also don’t know what Legends rules will look like for these units, since the Warhammer Community article doesn’t cover that.

The wider launch is coming fast. Per Warhammer Community’s October 11 preview, the Hjulda Drakkblud army set and ready-painted terrain are up for pre-order “next week.” The set has Hjulda, ten Clanshields, three Gholems of Gazul and an Oathkeeper Cannon, plus a battletome with an exclusive cover and 53 warscroll cards. No prices or release dates have been given for any of it. If Vulkite Berzerkers are on your wish list, the “soon off sale” language is a good reason to watch for the pre-order window, though we’d wait for the actual book date before panic-buying.

We’ll check back once the battletome has a release date and the pre-orders are live, so the 12-month window has a real start date on it.
