Old World Tomb Kings Get 78 New Plastic Skeletons in One Box

Seventy-two skeletons in a single box is a battle line. Add six chariots, and it’s an army with a reputation.

That’s the pitch behind the Host of Nehekhara Army Reinforcement Set for Warhammer: The Old World, which Games Workshop first showed at its Big Autumn Preview in September and says is rising from the tombs next week. The box holds 36 Skeleton Warriors, 36 Skeleton Archers and 6 Skeleton Chariots, 78 plastic miniatures in all. Games Workshop describes them as the first new plastic Warriors, Archers and Chariots for The Old World, as its autumn preview put it.

What matters at the table is how much choice is built in. The Warriors come with interchangeable shields, a full command section, and a choice between a spear and a khopesh-style sword. The Archers have swappable heads and quivers, plus little extras like arrows stuck in the ground and scuttling scarabs. The chariots can be built with a musician, a standard bearer or a champion. Whoever sculpted these clearly knew that two identical ranks of bones look dull after about one game.

Rules arrive alongside the models. The Arcane Journal: The River of Bones, as Frontline Gaming describes it, is campaign material that sends Settra’s wars toward Bretonnia and stirs up the Wood Elves. It adds new Armies of Infamy for both Tomb Kings and Wood Elves, rules for Gargantuan Treemen in Wood Elf armies, and expanded magic item options. There’s also a set of 20 bone-white dice with the Tomb Kings icon on the six face, and a pack of 54 reference cards. Bell of Lost Souls has covered the same week’s lineup.

Now the part that should slow your wallet down. The material we could find gives no price for any of it, and no firm pre-order date. Games Workshop’s own post says the army set, the dice and the cards are only available while stocks last. That’s a limited-stock box with no price attached, and plenty of players will end up deciding on the day. If a 78-model set lands at the price of a few regular kits, it’s a bargain. If it doesn’t, we’d rather you hear it from us before you’ve clicked.

Wood Elf players get something out of this too, which is a rare sight in a Tomb Kings week. The Treemen rules and the new Army of Infamy mean the other side of the river has a reason to open the journal as well.

We don’t yet know the price, the exact release day, or how long the limited run will last. We’ll check back once Games Workshop puts numbers on the box.
