Pathfinder’s Vaultlines Starts at Level 11, and the Player’s Guide Is Free

Level 11 is where a lot of groups never get to. Paizo’s next Pathfinder adventure path starts right there and keeps going to level 20.

The campaign is called Vaultlines. According to Paizo’s store listing, it’s a single hardcover at $79.99, built for the remastered Pathfinder Second Edition rules, with an expected release date of November 4, 2026. A Special Edition with a purple faux leather binding and a ribbon bookmark is listed as well. The book is credited to Sen H.H.S., Jacob W. Michaels, and Andrew White, with additional material from Matthew J. Hanson, Paul Hughes, and James Jacobs.

The setting is the Darklands, the sprawling world beneath Golarion’s surface. The hook, as Paizo describes it, is that the heroes are prisoners being marched to the city of Lattiskar when the first “vaultline” strikes. These are ley lines that Paizo compares to bolts of lightning, and they leave behind magic that warps flesh and stone. The party escapes and goes looking for the source. The listing says that journey runs through monster-infested tunnels and hidden jungle worlds, toward an enemy tied to an ageless evil. Bell of Lost Souls flagged the campaign back in May as a high-level adventure path, and that’s the part worth stopping on.

High-level play is where a game master needs the most help and gets the least. At level 11 and up, characters have a lot of options, encounters take real prep, and a campaign that has to hold together for ten levels can’t lean on improvisation. A published path that does the math for you is a fair thing to pay for. It’s also a commitment. Starting at 11 means a table either brings in characters built for that level or builds them fresh, and the book won’t solve that for you.

The useful news is that you don’t have to buy anything to start working on it. Paizo’s Vaultlines Player’s Guide is a free PDF on its download site. It’s spoiler-free, covers the Darklands and its people, and suggests ancestries, classes, languages, skills, and feats. It also adds four new backgrounds: Fleshwarp, Researcher, Ley Seeker, and Reincarnated Sekmin. The guide names the places players will bump into early, including Lattiskar’s ayindilar elves, the serpentfolk of Sverenagati, and the xiomorns, whom Paizo calls the ancient, alien architects of the vaults of Orv.

So here’s the practical read. If your group is thinking about Vaultlines, download the guide now and let the players build before you’ve spent $79.99. If a character concept falls flat at the table, you’ll find out for free. We haven’t seen the adventure itself, so we can’t tell you yet how well it handles the jump to level 11 for a group coming in cold. What we can say is that Paizo is handing players the homework early, and that’s a good way to start a campaign that long.
